{{Main Page introduction}}

#Each main page has a "discussion page" for comments and questions. You do not require to be logged in to edit these pages (but if you want your username to appear you should log in). Click on the link just under the relevant page title to go to the discussion page.
The abbreviations are similar but MHLO, [[Mental Health Lawyers Association|MHLA]] and [[Mental Health Law Reports|MHLR]] are all different.
#To edit or add main pages you must be registered as a contributor: please email jonathan at wikimentalhealth.co.uk if you are interested in this.

#Click on [http://www.wikimentalhealth.co.uk/Special:UserLogin&type=signup log in/create account] at the top of the screen if you want to create a user account. The only required information is a username and password so the process takes a matter of seconds.

==How to contribute==
==Improve the website==
* If you have any document (e.g. case transcript) or information (e.g. whether a case is being appealed) which could usefully be published, then please send it by email.  Also please email if you have any ideas for the site. See [[Contributors]] for a list of people who have contributed over the years.

There are several ways of helping the site develop which fall short of adding or editing pages.
* [[Contact:Magic_Book#top|Magic Book]]: Add people and places to this contacts database.

<div class="medium-4 columns>
==Financial support==
* [[Books]]: Buy books via the [https://uk.bookshop.org/shop/mentalhealthlaw Bookshop.org] and Amazon affiliate links.

#'''Email.''' Feel free to email jonathan at wikimentalhealth.co.uk if you need any help. Also please email if you have any ideas for the site, or resources such as case transcripts which aren't on Bailii yet.
* [[CPD scheme]]: 12 hours for £60 and not just for lawyers.
#'''Suggestion box.''' If you have a general suggestion which is not specific to an individual page, please leave it on the [[Suggestion box]] page.
#'''Discussion pages.''' Each "article" page has an associated "discussion" page (see the links at the top left). If you have comments or questions about an article then click on "discussion" and edit that page. E.g. see the [[Legislation]] page and its [[Talk:Legislation]] page. On the discussion page, if you are logged in, you can add your username and the date by typing <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>.
#'''Get stuck in.''' Email jonathan at wikimentalhealth.co.uk if you would like to be able to edit the main articles.

==How to edit pages==

<!--====Case citations====
In a development which may enthuse some more than others, I have at last (November 2016) written an extension which: (1) overcomes a software limitation which previously meant that all citations contained round brackets (square brackets are used in citations if the year is needed to identify the case or article, which is true for all neutral citation numbers); and (2) checks BAILII each time a neutral citation number appears on MHLO and automatically adds a BAILII link if the judgment is available there (links appear in blue text: the automatic external links have dotted underlining, normal external links have solid underlining, and internal links to other MHLO pages are not underlined). You can see an example of the extension at work on the [[R (Lee-Hirons) v SSJ (2016) UKSC 46, (2016) MHLO 38]] page.

*Use double square brackets around its name: type <nowiki>[[MHA 1983]]</nowiki> into the page to display [[MHA 1983]].
* Link styles:
*To link to a MHA 1983 section, use a page name like <nowiki>[[s10]]</nowiki> to display [[s10]]
** Normal internal link (i.e. to another MHLO page): [[Legislation]].
*For Tribunal rules, use <nowiki>[[Tribunal rule 10]] (English rules), [[Welsh Tribunal rule 10]] or [[Upper Tribunal rule 10]]</nowiki> as appropriate - e.g. [[Tribunal rule 10]].
** Automatically-generated link to an MHLO case page: [2018] EWCA Crim 2743
** Link to page which doesn't exist yet: [[Red links]].
** Normal external links (i.e. to a different website): [https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ Legislation.gov.uk]
** Automatically-generated BAILII link: [2018] WLR(D) 637

==Conventions on this site==

<span class="text">Legislation with a highlighted background cannot be edited. This is to promote confidence in its reliability.</span>

<font color="red">Red</font> links are to pages which don't exist yet. Help the site by creating them.

The software won't allow the following characters in page titles: & ? [ ] (So case citations need round brackets.)

==Change the layout==

If you prefer the classic Wikipedia layout then log in and select the following options: "My preferences" (top of the screen), "Skin", "MonoBook", then click "Save".

It is also possible to increase or decrease the size of the text. On Internet Explorer 7, change the font size by clicking "Page" then "Text size", or "zoom in" by clicking the "100%" at the bottom right of the window. On Firefox 3, change the font size or zoom in by clicking "View" then "Zoom".
